Arkwings is helping individuals find the things that make them whole. We nurture people so that they can be happy and healthy, then become strong, supportive members of the greater community.
We’ve actually been at this for longer than you may realize. Dr. John McCall III founded Arkwings in 1992, with the vision of developing his grandparents’ former home into a retreat center where people could come together to explore, learn, and grow.
Over the past 28 years, Arkwings has hosted local, national, and international groups for volunteer trips, community engagement, and educational experiences. Our 17 ½ acres have been home to some of the first Youth Urban Gardens in Frayser, a Native American sweat lodge, Boy Scout hiking trails and campouts, ballet in the barn, and a labyrinth, to name a few.
As we create a new chapter in the Arkwings story, we are currently exploring The Healing Power of Arts in the Community. We believe that creativity is necessary for one’s overall well-being. But let’s face it, “The Arts” doesn’t even sound like something that everyone can be part of. So we’re changing that.
How would you like to paint your feelings on canvas? Share your poetry with neighbors and friends? Create a nature journal? Walk quietly through the woods? Sing along in your loudest, proudest voice? We do all those things at Arkwings, and we want you to join us.
“The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.”
Frayser is fortunate to have such a lovely natural space; a taste of the country right in the midst of the city. Arkwings will continue to open our doors to residents in ways that help build mind, body, and spirit wellness.
